Repurposed trays and candlestick holders make fabulous accessory and make up storage. I doubt you could thrift these cheaper than the dollar store sells them, but for the same price you could definitely get some unique items with a nice patina to them at the thrift shoppe.

Truebluemeandyou: I would try and find cheap silver plate at thrift shops. It’s much sturdier and if it’s not shiny and new looking the prices are LOW.

I recently went to a shop that was closing down and got 40 earring pieces for $10. Bargain! Well I’m doing a new something comes in/something goes out policy with my craft so I decided to go through my jewelry pieces box. I had so many random charms, mostly orphans because their pair had broken (and yet… I still had it. Hoarder much!?) I was going to just make a charm bracelet but this is a much cooler idea. Though I might need to buy just a few more charms…

DIY: Turn premade pound cake into chichi petits fours.

“People will swear these are from a fancy bakery,” says Atlas of this tempting shortcut. To follow her lead: Use a serrated knife to cut the crust off a pound cake, then slice the cake into one-inch squares. Place them on a cooling rack with parchment paper underneath, pour icing over the squares, and let set for an hour. Atlas’s 60-second icing recipe? Mix four tablespoons of water to two cups of sifted confectioner’s sugar. Tint the mixture by stirring in a bit of gel food-coloring.
